Take Your Bikes To Work – September 4th
The 4th of September is a day especially dedicated to commuting to work by bike.
On the day employers and employees are encouraged to try and bike to work, in order to become more aware of the benefits of using a bike to work, including saving money, improving health and keeping fit and moreover helping sustain the environment.
Take the challenge and recruit your colleagues to bike to work together!
At last year’s day event an outstanding number of 20,000 commuters took to their bikes and cycled over a quarter of a million miles in total to get to work and support Bike to Work Day. This year we hope even more bikes and cyclists are out there keen and ready to Bike to Work!
Reports on the benefits of cycling to work from the NHS showed that £250.000.000 would be saved every year on commuting expenses if 1 in 10 journeys to work were made by bike! A report, ‘Millions of people on the move’, indicated that 748 million journeys where made by bike or on foot overall on the National Cycle Network in 2013, benefiting Great Britain’s economy by £1 billion. Further figures of the report showed that potential petrol savings for commuters where valued at almost £215m, while £803m health benefits came from physical activity.
