Top Gear: The Top 5 Bike Accessories We Want in 2016

Bikes can bring out the best in us all… and also the big kid in us all! Whether you’re an experienced cyclist or looking to get started, we all want the best accessories and gadgets to make our riding safer and more fun. Here, we take a look at the Top 5 Bike Accessories that will turn your wheels in 2016…

1. Garmin Varia Rearview Radar – Cost: £143.99

Not only does this cool new taillight feature improve visibility, it also senses approaching vehicles from as far away as 460 feet, ideal for night time cyclists driving home from work! The bar-mount display will alert you to an approaching vehicle and designate its proximity, while its second device – a rear light with radar – will blink brighter and more energetically the closer a vehicle approaches you from behind. You will be able to focus on a yellow LED that will slowly move towards another LED that indicates your position, until the vehicle moves on and your LED turns green.

2. Charge Chamber 13 Tool – Cost: £34.99

Sleek, sexy and perfect for those who love polished aluminium in their lives, the Charge Chamber 13 Tool is 2016’s must-have for cyclists. The multi-tool holds six bits, with a total of 13 tools, including seven hexes and six screwdrivers (two flat, two Phillips and two Torx). The ideal companion for both everyday riding and longer leisure trips, this is a bike accessory that will make you the envy of cyclists everywhere!

3. Giro Montaro MIPS – Cost: £100

Full coverage helmets are where it’s it in 2016 – but the best one out there slipped out late last year. The Giro Montaro maybe a little bit more expensive than your usual helmet, but quality costs and this maybe the best helmet on the market. MIPS, the Swedish-developed technology that protects against rotational forces in a crash, makes the helmet one of the safest around and it looks pretty cool, too! It’s worth noting that the Giro also offers excellent ventilation.

4. CamelBak Podium Chill Bottle 610ml – Cost: £13.99

Very useful for this time of year, CamelBak Podium Chill Bottles are available in a range of colours (to match your gear!) and will certainly get some use throughout 2016. Keeping your warm drinks warm is invaluable at this time of year and the bottles have proven to be as reliable as they come. The double-wall construction contains the science… but we think they look the part as well! And have a look at this great video for tips on how to keep your bottles clean.

A number of my team had been suggesting they were keen to get on their bike, get fit and try to get out of using public transport and mentioned the Bike2Work scheme. I contacted the team at Bike2Work and they made it very simple for Bright Purple to get engaged, explaining everything required of us to get going. As a company we are keen to support green issues and want to do our bit for the environment, so getting the team on 2 wheels is a good start. Thank you Bike2Work - great idea.

I only heard about Bike 2 Work Scheme when I visited my local cycle shop. It was great to hear that the government actually had a scheme in place which made cycling cost effective for the employee, whilst promoting a healthier lifestyle. Setting up the scheme was extremely easy, they made sure that we had everything that we required and was always on standby to answer any questions. I would happily recommend the Bike 2 Work Scheme to any employer.
